Homemade buttercream frosting is one of those recipes that seems like it should be hard, but is actually pretty easy. I put off learning how to do it for years. Instead I always used the stuff out of can. That stuff is great in a pinch, but if you have a few extra minutes this buttercream frosting recipe will make any dessert taste extra delicious. Oh, and its definitely a secret weapon to make any boxed cake taste like its homemade.
You can also try different variations like this chocolate candy bar buttercream frosting if you want to switch it up from vanilla.
Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
Cream the butter, salt and vanilla together until butter has a smooth texture.
Slowly incorporate the powdered sugar a 1/2 cup at a time until all powdered sugar has been used.
Frost your cupcakes, cake or muffins!
Tip: If you need to increase the buttercream frosting recipe, just keep the 3 to 1 ration of powdered sugar to butter.
