So the story of this summertime punch recipe is a little bit of a roundabout meandering tale. I bought a TON of watermelon the other day. It looked like a reasonably sized watermelon until I got it home and started cutting it up. I had no idea how we were going to eat it all. I had eaten my fill. My husband had eaten more than a few pieces. And my dog, being the picky eater that he is, was not interested. I tell you, this little guy is a bit weird. I’m so used to labs who will eat any and everything you give them, save for maybe lettuce. I never knew dogs could be this picky before! Do any of you have dogs like that?
So there I am, with pounds of watermelon still to go when I eye my juicer. Problem solved! I will juice! So I did, and of course ended up with tons of watermelon juice. Which by the way, looks gorgeous and smells amazing. But as usual, I wanted to mix it up. Straight watermelon juice would be boring! I wanted punch with watermelon juice. Into the fridge I went. I started mixing and matching the juices and drinks I had in there. I wasn’t kidding in my about me when I said this is a real thing I do. I probably look like some kind of mad fruit punch scientist. Is that a thing? Can it be a thing?
That’s when I came up with this little gem.
You will need:
- 5 cups of watermelon juice
- 2 1/2 cups of orange pop
- 1 cup pomegranate juice
Pour all of the ingredients into a pitcher. Add ice. If you want them to be extra delicious, cut up some extra watermelon cubes ahead of time and freeze them. You can add them to your glasses as you serve. It keeps your drink cool without watering it down, and also gives you a post drink treat.
